Gemini Smart Home Control on WearOS

Gemini connects to Google Home to control your smart lights, thermostats, locks, cameras, and other devices directly from your WearOS watch using voice commands.

Setup Requirements

Your smart home devices must be configured in Google Home before Gemini can control them.

  • Google Home App: Install and configure all smart devices in the Google Home app on your phone. Gemini pulls device information from here.

  • Same Account: Your watch must use the same Google account that manages your Google Home devices. Check in Settings Google Accounts.

  • Device Naming: Give devices clear, unique names like Living Room Lamp or Bedroom Fan. Avoid similar names that cause confusion.

  • Room Assignment: Organize devices into rooms in Google Home. This enables commands like Turn off the kitchen lights instead of naming each device.

Basic Voice Commands

Control individual devices with straightforward voice commands.

  • Lighting: Say Turn on the living room lights, Dim the bedroom to 50%, or Set the kitchen lights to warm white.

  • Climate: Say Set the thermostat to 72 degrees, Turn on the AC, or What's the temperature inside.

  • Security: Say Lock the front door, Is the garage door closed, or Show me the doorbell camera (camera feeds display on your phone).

  • Entertainment: Say Play music in the kitchen, Pause the TV, or Turn up the volume on the speaker.

  • Appliances: Say Start the robot vacuum, Turn off the coffee maker, or Is the washer done.

Scene and Routine Control

Trigger multi-device actions with a single command using scenes and routines configured in Google Home.

  • Scene Activation: Say Activate movie night or Start bedtime routine to trigger pre-configured scenes that adjust multiple devices simultaneously.

  • Multi-Device Control: Say Turn off all the lights, Lock all doors, or Set everything to away mode for broad control.

  • Status Checks: Ask Are all the doors locked, Which lights are on, or Is anything left on to check multiple devices at once.

  • Creating Scenes: Set up scenes in Google Home Automations Add Household routine. Name them with easy-to-remember phrases.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to resolve them when smart home commands don't work.

  • Device Not Responding: Check if the device shows online in Google Home. Try power cycling the device and checking your WiFi connection.

  • Command Not Recognized: Use the exact device name from Google Home. Say Turn on Living Room Lamp not Turn on the lamp in the living room.

  • Wrong Device Activated: If devices have similar names, Gemini may pick the wrong one. Rename devices to be more distinct.

  • Network Issues: Smart home commands require internet. If your watch shows WiFi or LTE but commands fail, check if Google Home is experiencing outages.

  • Partial Control: Some features like camera viewing or detailed device settings require the Google Home app on your phone rather than watch voice commands.

Advanced Features

Gemini offers sophisticated control beyond basic on/off commands.

  • Contextual Commands: When you're in a specific room with location-aware features enabled, saying Turn on the lights targets that room automatically.

  • Natural Language: Gemini understands variations like Make it warmer, I'm cold, or It's too bright and adjusts appropriate devices.

  • Conditional Requests: Say If it's dark outside, turn on the porch lights or Turn off the AC when I leave for context-aware automation.

  • Follow-up Commands: After controlling a device, ask follow-up questions like What's it set to now or Turn it up more without repeating the device name.
