How to Use Health and Fitness Tracking on WearOS

Here’s how to get the most out of the health and fitness tracking features on your WearOS watch.

Heart Rate Monitoring

  • Continuous Monitoring: Enable this feature in Google Fit or your manufacturer's health app to automatically track your heart rate during workouts.
  • Manual Readings: Open Google Fit or your health app, select Heart Rate, and keep your watch snug and still for 10-15 seconds.

Workout Tracking

  • Starting Workouts: You can start a workout from the Google Fit app or by using a voice command like, "Hey Google, start a run."
  • Workout Features: Your watch can track your GPS, heart rate zones, calorie burn, pace, and distance.

Sleep Monitoring

Wear your watch to bed to automatically track your sleep stages, duration, and efficiency. You can also set bedtime reminders and a smart alarm that will wake you during a light stage of sleep.

Advanced Health Features

  • Blood Oxygen (SpO2): Newer WearOS devices can take manual or automatic overnight blood oxygen readings.
  • ECG (Electrocardiogram): The Google Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch can take an ECG to detect irregular heart rhythms.
  • Body Composition (Samsung only): The Galaxy Watch4 and newer can measure your body fat, muscle mass, and water percentage.

Health Data Management

  • Google Fit Integration: Google Fit serves as a central hub for all your health data and can connect to third-party fitness apps.
  • Data Privacy: Your health data is encrypted on your device, and you have control over who it's shared with.
